Upper Montclair, NJ (11/13/02) - Sophomore forward ANDREW MACHO (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) scored in the 56th minute as No. 7 seed Montclair State upset second-seeded Ramapo College, 1-0, in the opening round of the 2002 ECAC Division III Metro Tournament.
Montclair State (11-6-2) now advances to the semifinals where they will meet third-seeded New York University on Saturday, November 16th in upper Manhattan. Game time is 3:00 pm.
Macho notched his fifth goal of the season as he took a pass from MATT CASWELL (Piscataway) and knocked it in past Ramapo goalkeeper ADAM HEIFITZ.
The goal would hold up as MSU avenged a 3-0 loss to the Roadrunners at MSU Soccer Park back on October 23rd.
CHRIS OWEN (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) made two saves to post his ninth shutout of the season. MSU outshot Ramapo, 13-8
The Red Hawks are making their second appearance in the ECAC Metro Tournament for the second time in three years. MSU finished as the runner-up in 2000 falling to Richard Stockton, 1-0 in overtime.
