JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott) scored 15 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as host Montclair State routed Centenary College, 94-54 in the opening round of the Montclair State University Tip-Off Tournament held at Panzer Gymnasium on Friday evening.
The Red Hawks (1-0) will face Trinity (CT) College in the championship game on Saturday, November 23 at 4:00 pm. Trinity advanced with a 79-71 victory over D'Youville (NY) College. Centenary (0-1) will square off with D'Youville in the consolation game at 2:00 pm.
Sophomore forward Chris Stewart (Jamaica/Piscataway) had 18 points and seven rebounds for Centenary, which shot just 24 percent from the field (18-of-74) in the contest and 6-of-30 from three-point range.
Trawick, a transfer from Central Florida Community College, scored all of his points and added eight rebounds in the first half as MSU clamped down on the Cyclones to take a 46-12 lead at halftime.
ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) added nine as MSU scored 17 straight points to take a 42-11 lead with 4:33 to play in the opening period.
ELLIS SHERROD (Newark, NJ/Parsippany) had five points in the run while
SCOTT MORIN (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) added four. Meanwhile, the MSU defense forced 14 turnovers and limited Centenary to just 13 percent shooting (4-of-31) from the field in the first half.
Sherrod finished with 11 while Dozier had nine as the Red Hawks saw 16 different players score in the game. Montclair shot 56 percent (34-for-61) from the field and out-rebounded the Cyclones, 55-42.
MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union) had seven points and seven rebounds with
MICHAEL DAVIS (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) contributing eight points and four rebounds.
