Red Hawks Remain Unbeaten, Down Rutgers-Camden

Camden, NJ (12/14/02) - The Montclair State University men's basketball team remained unbeaten with a 74-69 triumph today at Rutgers-Camden. The Red Hawks are now 7-0 overall and 5-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play, and in sole possession of first place in the conference.

Freshman forward ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) tallied 14 of his season-high 26 points in the second half to pace Montclair in scoring for the second straight game, after collecting 25 points in Wednesday's 72-58 win at New Jersey City University. Dozier also scored MSU's first 13 points of the second half today to help the Red Hawks overcome a 45-40 deficit en route to a 53-47 advantage. He connected on 8-of-11 free throws and 9-of-12 field goal attempts on the afternoon, and added six rebounds and five assists in 38 total minutes of play. Dozier now leads MSU in scoring so far this season with 15.6 points per outing.

Montclair took a 40-39 lead at halftime at Camden, powered by eight three-point field goals, including three treys from senior guard BEN MARTINEZ (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood). The Red Hawks shot 72.7 percent (8-of-11) in all from long range in the opening 20 minutes. Martinez finished with 10 points and a team-high six assists, while freshman forward JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott) contributed 15 points, three blocks and a team-best 10 rebounds.

Rob Scott led Rutgers-Camden with 21 points, followed by Mark Groark with 15 points. The Scarlet Raptors shot 50 percent from the field for the game, including 55 percent (16-for-29) in the first half.

MSU is now off until Dec. 27-28 when it hosts its annual Holiday Tournament at Panzer Gymnasium. The Red Hawks will then play two more non-conference contests before returning to NJAC action on Jan. 11, 2003 against The College of New Jersey.
