San Diego, CA (12/27/02) - The Montclair State University women's basketball team dropped to 5-3 overall today after falling by one point to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater today in the opening round of the San Diego Surf'n Slam Tournament at Point Loma Nazarene College, San Diego, California, 63-64.

The loss was the second straight for Montclair State following a two-game winnin streak.

Senior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret/Carteret) led Montclair with a double-double 18 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson) had 15 points while senior guard ERIN SCHULTZ (West Milford, NJ/West Milford) followed up her career-high 23 points with 10 points and six rebounds.

The Red Hawks will face Coe College (Iowa) in the consolation round on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Coe fell to Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio), 77-45 in the second game of the tournament on Friday. MSU will play a third game on Monday, December 30th against a yet to be determined opponent.
