South Orange, NJ (12/8/02) - The Montclair State indoor track teams opened up their 2002-03 season at the Seton Hall Open II Meet held at Seton Hall University on Sunday.

Senior Tierra Hicks (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and freshman Hashan Johnson (Bridgeton, NJ/Bridgeton) each qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships which will be held in March.

Hicks qualified for the 400 meters as she placed fourth in the 400 Meters with a time of 58.75. Meanwhile Johnson was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.58 meters.
Juniors Darryl Louis (Trenton, NJ/Trenton) and Alex Torres (Irvington, NJ/Roselle Catholic) gave the Red Hawks a 1-2 finish in the 400 meters. Louis won the event in a time of 50.09 with Torres crossing just three-tenths behind.

Among the other top finishers for Montclair State were freshman Curtis Sylvester (Jersey City, NJ/Dominican Republic), who placed second in the triple jump (13.44 meters)/ Also sophomore Osei Bonsu (Parlin, NJ/Old Bridge) was third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.64) with Benjamin Glaz (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) placing third in the shot put (35'10.5"). The Montclair State men's 1,600 meter relay team place second (3:21.92), while the women's 1,600 meter sqaud was third (4:22.19).
