Thomas Leads Unbeaten Montclair Past Rowan

Upper Montclair, NJ - Senior guard JOSEPH THOMAS (Linden, NJ/Linden) scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Montclair State used a key second-half run to remain unbeaten with a 73-67 victory over Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

Junior JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott) added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Red Hawks (5-0, 3-0 NJAC), who are off to their best start since the 1999-2000 season when they also started 5-0. Earle Agee (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Regional) had 15 points for Rowan (4-1, 2-1 NJAC), which suffered its first loss of the season after a 4-0 start.

Rowan led 59-50 with 8:06 left in the game, but Montclair scored five straight points as BEN MARTINEZ (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood) hit two free throws and Thomas scored on a three-point play to cut the lead to 59-55 with 6:16 to go. Joe Wendel (Brick, NJ/Millbrook School (NY)) scored on a layup to stop the run, but the Red Hawks scored 15 of the game's next 19 points to take a 70-64 lead with 52 seconds left. Trawick had six points and ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) scored a layup and hit two free throws awarded on an intentional foul to cap the spurt.

Agee's three-pointer with 30 second left got the Profs within 70-64, but MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union), who went 9-of-10 at the free throw line, hit three foul shots down the stretch to ice the game.

Gluck finished with 17 points for Montclair State, which outshot Rowan at the free throw line, 23-7. Chris Arnold (Sickleville, NJ/Bishop Eustace) had 11 points and six steals while Tylee Thomas (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood) added 10 points.
