Batts Leads Four in Double Figures as Women's Basketball Tops Manhattanville

Upper Montclair, NJ - Junior forward JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Montclair State defeated Manhattanville, 76-67, in NCAA Division III women's basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Monday evening.

KATHY BARBERI (Whitestone, NY/Francis Lewis) added 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Red Hawks (10-11), who won for the fourth time in their last six contests. ADRIENNE BORRANI (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina) had 17 points for the Valiants (6-14), which lost to MSU, 69-67 at home last season.

Montclair State led 36-24 at halftime, but Manhattanville opened the second half with a 20-5 to take the lead 44-41 with 14:59 left. Borrani had nine points in the run. However, the Red Hawks responded with a 14-0 run in the next four minutes to build a 55-44 advantage. SHIRAH ODEH (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) began the spurt with a three-pointer and later added two free throws to put Montclair ahead with 10:48 remaining.

Manhattaville tied the game at 62-62 with 3:51 to play as JEN RYAN (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) hit two free throws, but Barberi banked in a three-pointer and STEPHANIE CROLEY (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) scored on a layup for a five-point Montclair State lead. The Red Hawks would eventually close out the game hitting five-of-six at the charity stripe.

STEPHANIE ELLERBE (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) had 11 points and nine rebounds while Odeh chipped in with 10. NICOLE TERZIAN (Bronx, NY/St. Catherine Academy) led the way for the Valiants with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
