Women's Basketball Routs First Place Kean

Union, NJ - Junior center JASMINE BATTS (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) scored a career-high 31 points and pulled down 19 rebounds as Montclair State shocked first-place Kean University with an 85-67 victory at D'Angola Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

STEPHANIE ELLERBE (Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) added 15 points and was one of five players in double figures for the Red Hawks (11-11, 7-8 NJAC), who have won two straight.

Montclair State led 29-24 with 6:01 left in the first half before embarking on a 13-3 run to end the period. KATHY BARBERI (Whitestone, NY/Francis Lewis) began the run with a jumper and after two Kean free throws, STEPHANIE CROLEY (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) scored on a layup for a 33-26 lead. Barberi added a layup and Batts scored four straight points to make it 37-26 with 2:11 left. Following a Kean basket, Barberi nailed a three pointer with 1:16 to play and added a steal and layup with 33 seconds to give MSU a 42-27 halftime advantage.

In the second half, the Cougars (14-7, 11-4 NJAC) got as close at 49-41 with 15:47 left, but Batts scored four straight point to push the lead back to double digits. MSU would lead by as many as 20 at 75-54 with 5:11 left as SHIRAH ODEH (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) hit two free throws.

Croley finished with 12 points and 18 rebounds for Montclair State, which outrebounded Kean, 63-42.
