Fort Myers, FL (3/10/02) -- The Montclair State Softball Team dropped their first two games of the their 10-game Florida trip on Sunday falling to Transylvania (Kentucky), 2-0 and Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute, 3-2 in Fort Myers.
In the first game, Montclair was held to just one hit by ERIN HUNTER (Lousiville, KY). Sophomore DIANA AUTERI (Lyndhurst, NJ/St. Mary's) collected the lone hit with a single in the third inning.
Transylvania snapped a scoreless tie in the seventh inning as ERIN SHERRILL (Prescott, AZ) lined a two-out, two run single off TARA TODARO (Lodi, NJ.Lodi). It was the only blemish on an otherwise solid outing by the senior, who struck out 12.
In the second game, the Red Hawks (0-2), trailed 2-0 in the fourth, but cloed the gap as TONYA BARNES (Mechanicsville, PA/Atlee) drove home a run with a ground out. After RPI extended the lead to 3-1, Barnes again cut the deficit with an RBI single in the sixth. However, that would be as close as MSU would get.
Sophomore CRYSTAL SWEENEY (Edison, NJ/Edison) took the loss. Sweeney allowed six hits, struck out three and walked two. KARI McDONNELL (Wrightstown, NJ/North Burlington) had a triple for MSU.
