Fort Myers, FL (3/13/02) -- Freshman third baseman KARI McDONNELL (Wrightstown, NJ/Northern Burlington) collected a pair of inside-the-park home runs as Montclair State gained a split of their two games at the Gene Cusic Classic on Wednesday afternoon. MSU fell to Webster (MO), 9-1, but rebounded for an 11-0 victory over North Park (IL), 11-0.
McDonnell homered in both of her at bats as she tied the MSU single-game record. The Red Hawks (3-3) scored six times in the first and added five more in the fourth.
STEPHANIE ROMANKO (No. Brunswick, NJ/No. Brunswick), TONYA BARNES (Mechanicsville, PA/Atlee) and DANA SPRAGUE (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) each had two hits for Montclair State.
CRYSTAL SWEENEY (Edison, NJ/Edison) picked up the victory. Sweeney (2-1) allowed just one hit while striking out 10.
In the first game, Webster scored twice in the second and added three-runs in the third and fourth innings to put the game away. TARA GIALANELLA (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris) accounted for the only MSU run as she tripled and scored in the third inning.
TARA TODARO (Lodi, NJ/Lodi) took the loss (1-2) allowing 11 hits while striking out seven.
