Red Hawks Beat Chapman in California Trip Finale

Orange, CA -- Senior shortsotop BRIAN ELLERSON (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) went 4-for-4 while SHAWN DYCKMAN (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) drove in apair of runs as Montclair State, ranked fourth in Division III,topped third-ranked Chapman University on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman centerfielder ETHAN BOYD (Perth Amboy, NJ/Perth Amboy) had two hits and an RBI for the Red Hawks (6-3), who finished 4-3 on their seven-game West Coast swing. MSU also defeated Chapman for the third straight time.Last year, MSU beat Chapman,5-1 at 2001 NCAA World Series.

Montclair Stateled 3-0 before scored a pair of runs in each of the fourth and fifthto take a 4-3 lead. The Red Hawks would regain the lead in the seventhas CHRIS MAYO (Kearny, NJ/Kearny) led off the inning with a walkand came around to score on an RBI double by Ellerson. Dyckman thenlofted a one-out sacrifice fly to give Montclair a 5-4 lead.

Boyd extended thelead to 6-4 in the eighth with an RBI single, but Chapman closedthe gap to a run in their half of the inning as Ryan France drovein a run with a sacrifice fly.

But that wouldbe as close as Chapman would get as JOSH PINE (Trenton, NJ/Steinert)recorded the final six outs to save the game.

COREY HAMMAN (Flanders,NJ/Roxbury) picked up the win, his ninth straight decision. Hamman (2-0) allowed five runs and seven hits in seven innings. He struckout four and walked four.
