Warth, Giacomiazzio Lead MSU to Twinbill Sweep

Little Falls,NJ - Freshman leftfielder TOMMY WARTH (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) belted a grand slam and drove in six runs in the first game andjunior first baseman JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) hit a pair of homers in the nightcap as fifth-ranked Montclair State swept New Jersey City University, 17-2 and 7-3 in New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball action at Yogi Berra Stadium this afternoon.

Lefthanders JASON ARRE (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) and COREY HAMMAN (Flanders,NJ/Roxbury) each picked up the victories for the Montclair (11-4,2-0 NJAC), which pounded out 32 hits in the doubleheader sweep.

Leading the first game 2-1 in the third, MSU scored three times as ADAM CERMINARO (Wall, NJ/Wall) singled home a run and Warth delivered a two-runsingle to give the Red Hawks a 5-1 lead. The following inning, MSU took advantage of three NJCU errors and scored nine times as itsent 12 batters to the plate. Warth had the biggest blow of theinning, a grand slam over the right-centerfield fence for a 14-1 Montclair lead.

Arre (1-0) earnedthe win allowing three hits and one run over six innings. He struckout five and did not walk a batter. PETE AMADEO (Bayonne, NJ/St.Peter's Prep) took the loss (2-2).

In the second game, New Jersey City tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth inning as JONATHAN THOMAS (Newark, NJ/St. Benedict's Prep) drove in a run on a fielder'schoice. However, Montclair regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as SHAWN DYCKMAN (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) singled with one out and Giacomiazzio connected for his second homer of the game for a 4-2 MSU lead. The Red Hawks then added a single run in the seventh and two in the eighth for the final margin.

Hamman (3-1) pickedup the victory going the first seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) and four hits. He struck out five and walked two. BRIAN ELLERSON (Bayonne, NJ/Hudson Catholic) got the final two outs in the ninth for his first save of the season.
