Geneva, NY (9/14/02) – Union College (NY) scored twice in a two-minute span to break a scoreless tie in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory over Montclair State in the first round of the Heron Cup held at William Smith College on Saturday afternoon.

Scoreless in the 63rd minute, Union snapped the tie at Katleyn Kovacs crossed a pass that Brittany Cressman banged into the lower left corner of the net past Montclair State goalkeeper STEPAHNIE ROMANKO (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick).

Just over two-minutes later, Erika Eisenhut found the back of an open net for a 2-0 lead. Abbie West finished off the scoring for Union, an NCAA Division III Tournament Team a year ago.

Romanko made two saves for the Red Hawks (2-2), while Carolyn Stead made two saves for Union. Union outshot Montclair State, 12-6.

The Red Hawks will return to action on Sunday, September 15th as they face host William Smith in the second day of the Heron Cup. William Smith was also an NCAA Division III Tournament Team in 2001.
