Upper Montclair, NJ (9/20/02)- The Montclair State University volleyball team opened its 2002 home slate with a 3-0 victory over Baruch (NY) College tonight at Panzer Gymnasium. The Red Hawks won by scores of 30-27, 30-20 and 30-16 in recording their third sweep of the season. MSU is now 5-4 overall this fall, while Baruch falls to 3-6.

Senior hitter STACEY JOHNSON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) led Montclair with 18 kills and three service aces, while sophomore hitter TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) notched 17 kills and paced MSU with 10 digs. Sophomore setter JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academy) finished with 41 assists and seven digs for the Red Hawks, while Johnson and Aciz had one assist each, with Johnson also registering six digs.

Freshman setter SAFIA MIAN (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) posted 30 assists for Baruch, while senior blocker MARINA BALLINA (Brooklyn, NY/#115 Russia) led the Statesmen with 10 kills. Sophomore hitter SADIS SEQUEIRA (Bronx, NY/Herbert H. Lehman) finished with a team-high 11 digs, and also contributed nine kills.

Montclair State returns to action at home on Tuesday, Sept. 24, when it hosts New Jersey Athletic Conference rival William Paterson University at 7:00 p.m. at Panzer Gym. MSU is 2-1 in NJAC play this year, including a come-from-behind 3-2 win at New Jersey City University last night. WPU swept Montclair in Wayne, NJ last September.
