Men's Soccer Edges Rutgers-Newark 2-0

Newark, NJ (9/25/02) - The Montclair State University men's soccer team posted its third straight win and second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference with a 2-0 blanking of Rutgers-Newark at Alumni Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The Red Hawks are now 7-1 overall this season and 2-0 in the NJAC. Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-4-1 and 0-2 in the conference.

Montclair State snapped a scoreless tieat the 21:17 mark as sophomore midfielder ANDREW MACHO (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) took a pass from senior ANDREW ANGORANO (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) on the left side and blasted a shot to the near post for a 1-0 Red Hawk lead. It was Macho's third goal of the season.

MSU then put the game away with 5:31 remaining as freshman JESSEN VAN SYCKLE (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) notched his first career goal when he chipped a breakway shot over the head of Scarlet Raider goalkeeper CARMINE CAMBARERI (Cliffside Park, NJ/Fort Lee).

Sophomore goalkeeper CHRIS OWEN (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes, NJ) made just one save in recording his fifthshutout this season. Cambareri made six saves for Rutgers-Newark. Montclair State outshot the Scarlet Raiders, 19-9.

Montclair State returns to NJAC action on Friday, Sept. 27, when it hosts Ramapo College at 3:30 p.m at MSU Soccer Park.
