Center Valley, PA (9/28/02)- The Montclair State volleyball team posted a fifth-place finish at the Bulldog Invitational held at DeSales University on September 27-28. The Red Hawks moved to 7-7 on the season after splitting four matches in the tournament.
Sophomore
TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) was named to the All-Tournament Team. It is the fourth time in her career that Aciz has been named to an All-Tournament Team. Aciz collected 51 kills, 15 assists, five aces, 41 digs and six total blocks in the four matches.
In the Saturday match against Kean, the Red Hawks fell 30-26, 30-27 and 30-26. Aciz had 11 kills with Flavia Viega (Belen, Brazil/Sophos) adding 10 kills and 10 digs.
Montclair then faced Hunter College (NY) in the fifth-place match. The Red Hawks, for the second time this season, fell behind 2-games-to-none, but roared back for a 20-30, 32-30, 31-29, 30-23, 15-13 victory.
STACEY JOHNSON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) had 13 kills and 10 digs while Aciz had 10 kills, eight assists, four aces, 13 digs and five blocks.
JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/McNair Academy) and
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, NJ/Barringer) each had 18 assists for Montclair.
On Friday evening, MSU went 1-1 as they defeated Cedar Crest College in five games before falling to St. John Fisher in four games.
Aciz had 19 kills while Johnson and Viega had 18 and 17 kills respectively in the win over Cedar Crest. Olan had 47 assists and 15 digs as the Red Hawks won 22-30, 30-25, 25-30, 34-32 and 18-16. Johnson had 12 kills while Aciz added 11 and 10 digs in the loss to St. John Fisher. MSU won the first game, 30-24, but lost the next three 30-18, 30-17 and 30-18.
