Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Schultz's Game-Winner Sends Women's Basketball Past Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ (1/22/03) - Senior guard ERIN SCHULTZ (West Milford, NJ) connected from long range from the left side with 4.7 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Montclair State University women's basketball team to a 55-54 decision at Ramapo College tonight in a New Jersey Athletic Conference contest.

The win snapped a three-game Red Hawk winless streak and elevated MSU to 8-6 overall (4-5 NJAC), while the host Roadruners fell to 9-7 (4-5). It was also MSU's first win of the calendar year, the Red Hawks' last victory coming against Rowan in San Diego back on Dec. 30.

Freshman forward EBONY ALLEN (Camden, NJ) and junior guard DYETTE DILLARD (Willingboro, NJ) each led MSU with 13 points on the night, while senior guard STEPHANIE CROLEY (Plainfield, NJ) paced Montclair with 11 rebounds.

MSU trailed by a 27-19 count at halftime, after Ramapo surged to an 11-3 lead in the opening minutes of play. The Red Hawks responded in the second half with a 12-0 run to take a 42-38 advantage with 8:35 left on the clock. Ramapo then used another 11-3 run to take a 53-53 lead with 1:04 remaining, which stood until Schulz connected from the left side off a feed from freshman forward AMY SNYDER (Cranford, NJ), who finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Stephanie Pillari paced the host Roadrunners with 15 points and eight rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals.

MSU returns to NJAC action on Saturday afternoon at Richard Stockton College at 2:00 p.m. in Pomona.
