Horan's Goal Pushes Men's Soccer Past William Paterson

Upper Montclair, NJ (10/1/03) --- Sophomore SEAN HORAN (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) scored off a free kick as 14th-ranked Montclair State blanked local and league rival William Paterson, 1-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

The win was the Red Hawks (8-1-2, 2-0-2 NJAC) second in the last three games as MSU defeated the Pioneers for the first time since the 2000 season when Montclair posted a 4-1 victory in Wayne. It was also the first time Montclair beat WPU at home since 1997 (a 1-0 overtime victory). Freshman Kyle Rowe (Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) made five saves for the Pioneers (2-5-1, 0-2-1 NJAC), who have lost two straight and three of their last four.

Horan notched his second goal of the season and first since September 6th as he connected on the free kick with 38:38 remaining. Taken from the 25-yard line, Horan lofted a kick that found the inside of the left post, past a diving Rowe. Montclair had an opportunity to extend the lead in the 65th minute as RYAN MORGAN (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) collected a ball in the box and fired a shot that Rowe was able to kick away while sliding.

William Paterson had two chances inside the last 10 minutes as Rob Gambino (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) booted a free kick into the box that MSU netminder EDGARD DINTEN (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) kicked aside. Eric Kinckle (North Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) tried a headed just over a minute later, but Dinten again came up with the save.

Dinten made five saves as well in recording his third shutout of the season. William Paterson outshot the Red Hawks, 13-11.
