Glassboro, NJ (10/4/03) --- Freshman forward Illyas Tasci (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) scored midway through the first half as 14th-ranked Montclair State won its third straight with a 1-0 victory over Rowan University in New Jersey Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday evening.
The Red Hawks improved to 9-1-2 overall and 3-0-2 in the NJAC as they defeated the Profs for the first time since 1989 with their third win at Rowan this season. Montclair captured the season-opening Sunkist Classic held Rowan in late August defeating Dowling and SUNY Old Westbury.
Tasci broke the scoreless tie at the 22:17 mark as he recorded his second goal of the season.
BILL ANTHES (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) pushed a pass to Tasci at the top of the box. Tasci then dribbled the ball to the right side before blasting a shot past the Profs' goalkeeper Brian Lloyd (Swainton, NJ/Middle Township).
Rowan pressured the Red Hawks in the second half, outshooting MSU 9-4 in the final 45 minutes. However, Red Hawks goalkeeper
EDGARD DINTEN (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) stopped all five shots and seven total in the game as he posted his fourth shutout of the season.
Rowan outshot the Red Hawks, 18-6, in the contest. Lloyd made one save before leaving in the 55th minute. Tom Eichorn (Dumont, NJ/Dumont) played the final 35:37, making three saves.
The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, October 9th as they travel to Hackettstown to face Centenary College at 3:00 pm. Last season, Montclair State blanked the Cyclones, 6-0 at Sprague Field.
