Grantham, PA (10/11/03) - Senior defender JEN CARBONARO scored MSU's only goal as the 10th-ranked Red Hawks fell at Messiah College in NCAA Division III field hockey action.

The loss snaps MSU's five-game winning streak and leaves Montclair at 9-2 overall.

Messiah (9-2) took a 1-0 lead with 2:04 remaining in the first half as Bethany Fulton scored off a penalty corner. The score remained unchanged until Carbonaro tied matters with 10:56 left in the second half on a penalty stroke, but the host Falcons responded just over two minutes later as Danae Chambers connected for the game-winning goal with 8:51 left.

Messiah outshot Montclair, 37-13, and had 14 penalty corners to the Red Hawks' nine. Senior goalkeeper TRISHA WINKLE finished with 23 saves for MSU, 12 in the first half and 11 in the second.

Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, when the Red Hawks visit Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up in Union, NJ.
