Union, NJ (10/14/03) – Kean University junior outside hitters Iwona Janiak (Clifton, N.J.) and Evelina Trzeciak (Monroe, N.J.) each posted double- doubles to lead the Cougars past Montclair State University, 3-1, in New Jersey Athletic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
The four-game victory (30-18, 30-28, 26-30, 30-22) improved Kean to 9- 14 overall, 3-3 NJAC, while the Hawks fell to 7-23 overall, 2-5 in the conference.
In the win, Janiak tallied a match-high 17 kills and had 20 digs and four service aces, and Trzeciak added 13 kills, 14 digs and four service aces. Senior setter Jessica Roeber (Kingston, N.Y.) dished out 42 assists, while sophomore opposite Jihan Girard-Issac (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 13 kills and freshman libero Alex Cabarcas (Paterson, N.J.) had a match-high 21 digs.
For Montclair State, freshman outside hitter
ASIA LIVINGSTON (Paterson, N.J./Passaic County Tech) had 10 kills and 13 digs, while senior hitter
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, N.J./Barringer) and sophomore middle blocker
KELLY MCGUIRE (Upper Saddle River, N.J./No. Highlands) added 13 digs and 14 digs, respectively.
The Red Hawks return to action on Saturday, October 15th as it travels to Scranton, PA to face Kings College (PA) and Wilkes University in a tri-match that begins at Noon.
