Union, NJ (10/18/03) - Senior midfielder
JESSICA KOCH (Blackwood, NJ/Triton) and freshman
TARA KUPOGLU (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) each scored a goal as the Montclair State women's soccer team blanked Kean University, 2-0, in New Jersey Athletic Conference women' soccer action on Saturday afternoon.
SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) stopped five shots in recording her sixth shutout as MSU won its third straight and improved to 10-3 overall and 6-1 in the NJAC. Jessica Kogel (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West) made 13 saves for the Cougars (6-8-2, 4-3 NJAC).
Koch provided all the scoring Montclair would need in the 24th minute as she took a pass from Kaylan Van Brookhoven (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) on the right side and fired a shot that beat Kogel for the score. It was Koch's third goal of the season.
In the second half, Kupoglu extended the lead to 2-0 just under five minutes into the period.
STEPHANIE SANTOS (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) lofted a pass into the box where Kupoglu headed it in for her second goal in as many games. The freshman had missed the first 10 games with a knee injury.
Montclair State outshot Kean, 20-9 in the contest and held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
MSU returns to action on Monday, October 20th as it travels to Centenary College to face the Cyclones at 4:00 pm. Last season, Montclair posted a 7-1 win in the 2002 home opener as Stepahnie Sabaliauskas (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) had a hat trick.
