Women's Soccer Earns Third Straight Shutout in 2-0 Win

Hackettstown, NJ (10/20/03) - The Montclair State University women's soccer team won its fourth straight game and its third in a row by shutout in blanking host Centenary College today, 2-0. MSU is now 11-3 overall this season.

Junior forwards STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) and LIZ D'ALTO (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) scored 34 seconds apart in the second half to provide the Red Hawks with all the scoring they would need. Junior goalkeeper SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) had three saves for Montclair, which outshot Centenary, 18-3, including 10-1 in the final 45 minutes of play.

Sabaliauskas scored at 53:07 off an assist from senior midfielder JESSICA KOCH (Blackwood, NJ/Triton) to put MSU up, 1-0. It was her team-leading 12th goal of the campaign, and also proved to be her sixth game-winning goal of the year. D'Alto made it 2-0 at 53:41 off a set-up by junior back GABBY WHITE (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) to close out the scoring, her third goal in the last three games.

Montclair had five corner kicks to Centenary's none, while the two teams combined for nine fouls on the day. Michelle Burke finished with 10 saves for the host Lady Cyclones, who dropped a 7-1 decision at MSU last fall as Sabaliauskas notched three goals to lead the Red Hawks.

Montclair State next plays at Stevens Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 4:00 p.m. in Hoboken. The Red Hawks defeated the Ducks last season, 1-0 in overtime, in Upper Montclair on a goal by Sabaliauskas.
