Odeh Leads Women's Soccer Past No. 7 TCNJ, 2-1

Upper Montclair, NJ (10/25/03) - Junior back SHIRAH ODEH (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) scored a goal in each half, both on headers off corner kicks, and classmate SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) made five saves in net to lead the Red Hawk women's soccer team past No. 7 The College of New Jersey today by a 2-1 count at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field.

The win was the Red Hawks first against the Lions since the series began in 1990. Both teams are now 12-4 overall, while MSU improves to 7-1 in New Jersey Athletic Conference play and TCNJ falls to 6-2.

Montclair State, which has also won five of its last six games overall, clinched no worse than a No. 2 seed in the NJAC Tournament which begins on November 3rd. The Red Hawks can capture its first-ever regular-season title and No. 1 seed in the tournament with either win or tie against Richard Stockton at home on Friday (October 31st) evening.

Odeh headed home a corner kick from the right side by senior midfielder STEPHANIE SANTOS (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) just 1:56 into the game to put MSU up, 1-0. The score remained unchanged into the second half until Odeh connected again on a carbon copy play, this time at 56:50, off a kick by sophomore forward KELLY DUTKO (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), for her third goal of the year.

Junior midfielder Lynda Schuster (Trenton, NJ/Nottingham) got TCNJ on the board at 74:59, following up the rebound of her own shot in front to tally her fifth goal of the fall and close out the scoring. Sophomore netminder Alissa Kacar (East Brunswick, NJ/ East Brunswick) had three saves for the visiting Lions, including a one-handed save on Dutko's try at a vacated TCNJ net with 12 minutes to go in regulation. TCNJ outshot MSU, 16-8, and outcornered the Red Hawks, 13-4. The teams combined for 22 fouls in all.
