Field Hockey Routs Scranton 5-1

Scranton, PA (10/4/03)  - Senior forward MEGAN ULICNY tallied a goal and three assists, and classmate SARAH LEVINE added a pair of goals as the Red Hawks defeated the University of Scranton today, 5-1, at Fitzpatrick Field.

MSU improves to 8-1 on the year and 6-1 in non-conference play, while Scranton falls to 4-7 overall.

Ulicny opened the scoring just 2:52 into the game today with her team-leading ninth goal of the campaign. Levine, who will be featured in "Faces in the Crowd" in the October 6th issue of Sports Illustrated out next week, sandwiched both her goals around a tally by freshman midfielder Jennifer Soss as Montclair took a 3-0 lead after just over nine minutes of play. Levine scored her second goal at 51:39 to put MSU up, 4-0.

Sophomore forward JAMIE LUKACS closed out the Red Hawks scoring at 56:30 before Scranton senior forward Torie Crocco spoiled MSU's shutout bid with 1:45 left. Senior goalkeeper TRISHA WINKLE had no saves in playing the first 60:56 of the game for Montclair, while sophomore backstop ROBYN APICELLI had one save on two shots against in finishing the rest of regulation time.

The Red Hawks outshot the Royals, 14-5, and had eight penalty corners to Scranton's three.

Next up for Montclair is a home game against future conference rival Ramapo on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at MSU's Sprague Field. Ramapo, playing in its first season of varsity competition, will join the NJAC in 2004.
