Upper Montclair, NJ (10/8/03) - Senior midfielder MEGAN ULICNY scored three goals, and senior forward LEA SMITH set a Montclair State record with four assists as the 10th-ranked Red Hawks won their fifth straight with a 9-0 win over Ramapo College in NCAA Division III field hockey action at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.

Freshmen KRISTEN SWARTZ and JEN SOSS each had two goals as MSU (9-1) scored four times in the game's first six minutes. Goalkeepers Katelyn Ferguson and Elana Steinfeld each had six saves for the Roadrunners (1-4), who are in their first year of varsity competition. Ramapo will join the New Jersey Athletic Conference in 2004.

Ulicny, who recorded her second hat trick of the season, notched her 10th goal of the season just 78 seconds in as she scored off a penalty corner. NICOLE PUSO extended the lead to 2-0 at the 2:49 mark as she took a pass from Smith and beat Ferguson inside the right post. JEN CARBONARO made it a three-goal lead just under five minutes in as she scored on a penalty stroke. Soss then made it 4-0, as she scored from the right side on an assist from Ulicny 1:15 later. Montclair State led, 7-0 at the half.

Swartz scored both of her goals in the second half, each set up by an assist from Smith, who broke the assist record set five times, most recently by Janel Bertini against King's (PA) in October 2001.
