STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS (Edison, NJ/Mt. St. Mary Academy) scored the only goal of the game with 56 seconds left in the first half to boost Montclair State University to a 1-0 victory over rival Rowan University today at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field in New Jersey Athletic Conference women's soccer action.
Montclair State improves to 7-2-0 overall and 4-1 in NJAC play, while Rowan falls to 7-3-1 on the year and 2-2-1 in the conference. MSU also blanked Rowan by a goal for the second straight season.
Sabaliauskas gave MSU the only goal it would need when she tapped in a loose ball at the right post of the Rowan net at 44:04. Sophomore midfielder Kaylan Van Brookhoven (Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) garnered the only assist on the play. Junior goalkeeper
SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) had two saves in recording her fifth shutout of the season for the Red Hawks, while freshman netminder Gabrielle Ditchey (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) finished with seven saves for the visiting Profs. Montclair State outshot Rowan, 8-2, and had two corner kicks to Rowan's one attempt.
MSU now heads south for its next two games, beginning with a contest at Florida Southern on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 5:00 p.m. Rowan will host Centenary College on Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m. in Glassboro.
