Upper Montclair, NJ (11/12/03) - Junior defender
GABBY WHITE (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored off a free kick late in the second half as top-seeded Montclair State blanked No. 4 seed Centenary College, 1-0, in the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Metro Women's Soccer Tournament at Sprague Field on Wednesday evening.
Montclair State (14-5-1) will host second-seeded Richard Stockton in the championship game on Saturday, November 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Sprague Field. Earlier on Wednesday the Ospreys defeated third-seeded William Paterson, 4-0. The game will be a rematch of last year's final, which Richard Stockton won, 2-1 in overtime on a goal by Kari Devine. The teams also played to a scoreless tie on October 31 this season.
MSU has been to the title contest of the ECAC Metro Tournament in each of the last four seasons, winning the crown in 2000 while finishing as the runner-up the past three years.
Playing through a dense fog that covered Sprague Field, White notched her first goal of the season as her free kick from 25 yards out bended through the fog and ducked inside the far right post past Cyclones goalkeeper Krystal McCullen (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield).
SUSAN HINDS (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) made two saves as she recorded her ninth shutout of the season and second against the Cyclones (12-8) this season. Montclair posted a 2-0 victory in Hackettstown on October 20. McCullen had seven saves for Centenary, which was outshot in the game, 17-6.
