Gluck, Johnson Spark Montclair to Victory Over Rutgers-Camden

Upper Montclair, NJ - Sophomore forward MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union) scored 19 points as Montclair State won its second straight with a 78-55 victory over Rutgers-Camden in New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

Junior guard Abraham Johnson (Newark, NJ/Barringer) added 14 points as the Red Hawks (17-4, 11-4 NJAC) defeated the Scarlet Raptors (7-15, 2-13 NJAC) for the 23rd consecutive time. MSU has not lost to Rutgers-Camden since December 6, 1991, a 67-64 decision in Camden.

Chuck Walter (Haddon Heights, NJ/Paul VI) had 15 points while Bryon Diggs (Camden, NJ/Medical Arts) had 10 for the Scarlet Raptors, who shot just 34 percent (17-of-50) from the field.
The Red Hawks started off strong in the first half as the connected on their first five shots and took a 12-4 lead. Johnson and Gluck each had six in the run and the lead grew to 24-13 with 11:23 remaining in the half as BEN MARTINEZ (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood) scored on a layup.

However, Rutgers-Camden was able to chip away and got the lead to five twice in the final 2:38. Homer Hennings (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) hit a short jumper to make the score 35-30 and after a layup by MSU's JOSEPH THOMAS (Linden, NJ/Linden), Gene Mergenthal (Sicklerville, NJ/Highland) scored on a layup to make the score 37-32 in favor of Montclair at intermission.
Johnson had nine points and Gluck eight as Montclair shot 50 percent from the field. Walter led the way for the Scarlet Raptors with eight points.

Walter would score five points to open the second half as the Scarlet Raptors drew within 39-37. Montclair then responded with a 27-9 run over the next 13 minutes to put the game away. Gluck had six points in the run, including back-to-back three pointers as the Red Hawks took a 66-46 built a 66-46 lead with 5:44 left in the game.

PIERRE MITCHELL (Newark, NJ/East Side) and Martinez each had nine points for MSU, which shot 52 percent (31-of-59) from the field, including 12-of-25 from three points range. ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) had eight points, four assists and two blocked shots in his return after missing last Saturday's Kean game with an injury.
