Mitchell, Gluck Pace MSU Past Kean, 59-38

Upper Montclair, NJ - Freshman guard PIERRE MITCHELL (Newark, NJ/East Side) scored 16 points as Montclair State allowed a season-low 38 points in defeating Kean University, 59-38 in New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball action at Panzer Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore forward MICHAEL GLUCK (Union, NJ/Union) had 10 points -- all in the second half -- as the Red Hawks (16-4, 10-4 NJAC) snapped a two-game losing streak. Montclair State also won despite not having leading scorer ANTWAN DOZIER (Pleasantville, NJ/Pleasantville) and leading rebounder JEROME TRAWICK (Newark, NJ/Clifford Scott), who both missed the game with leg injuries. Ryan McKeever (Bound Brook, NJ/Immaculata) led Kean with eight points.

Montclair led 14-13 with 9:26 to play in the opening half but exploded by scoring the game's next 13 points. Abraham Johnson (Newark, NJ/Barringer) began the run with a layup and SCOTT MORIN (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) scored six consecutive points to make the score 20-13. Johnson then connected on a short jumper and BEN MARTINEZ (Scotch Plains, NJ/SP-Fanwood) added a basket before Johnson capped the run at 5:06 with a layup. The Red Hawks led 32-24 at halftime.

In the second half, MSU scored 15 of the first 18 points to take a 47-25 lead with 13:43 to play i the period. Mitchel scored seven points while Gluck added four. Gluck's consecutive three's with just under 10 minutes to go gave the Red Hawks a 53-28 advantage and JOSEPH THOMAS' (Linden, NJ/Linden) running jumper at 7:30 gave Montclair its largest lead at 55-29. Meanwhile, the Cougars struggled from the field making just 21 percent (5-of-23) in the second half.

Johnson and Thomas each finished with eight points while Morin and MICHAEL DAVIS (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) each had six. Gluck also had eight rebounds and Thomas seven as the Red Hawks enjoyed a 37-25 advantage on the boards.
