Abilene, TX - Firstbaseman Jeff Gabbert hit a two run homerun as Southwestern (TX) shutout the Red Hawks 9-0 Tuesday evening at Walt Driggers Field.
Gabbert was 1-1 with two RBI's and three runs scored for Southwestern (11-6).
DANNY RODRIGUEZ (Monmouth, NJ/S. Brunswick) and
JOE GIACOMIAZZIO (East Brunswick, NJ/E. Brunswick) each had two hits for Montclair State (2-3).
Southwestern chipped away scoring runs in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings respectively. Gabbert delivered what would be the winning run in the bottom of the third inning on a two run homerun. The pitch delivered was actually called a balk, however the ball remains live and Southwestern took the outcome of the homerun.
Southpaw
CHRIS RASTELLI (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) suffered the loss for MSU. Rastelli (0-1) allowed five runs, four earned, in five innings of work. He also struck out three and walked one.
The Red Hawks only managed seven hits off starter Kurt Watzek, four coming off the bats of Rodriguez and Giacomiazzio.
