Allentown, PA (03/19/03) - Junior CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) became the all-time leading scorer in Montclair State history, however, the Red Hawks had their two-game winning streak snapped with an 18-6 loss at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday afternoon.
Homiek picked up a three assists as she ran her career point mark to 178, three more than Jeanelle Husth, who had 175 from 1997-2000.
Senior JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) had six goals for Montclair State, which fell behind 8-0. Gangemi, who became the Red Hawks' all-time goal scorer on Monday, now has 177 points in her career.
Muhlenberg's Courtney Tapkas scored three goals as the Mules jumped out to the 8-0 lead. Tapkas scored twice as the Muhlenberg led 4-0 after the first 11 minutes. Tapkas, who had six goals in the game made the score 8-0 at the 17:24 mark of the first half.
The Red Hawks would cut the deficit to five as Gangemi scored three straight times, the last coming with 5:51 remaining in the first half. However Amy Lanning scored unassisted to give the Mules a 9-3 halftime advantage.
In the second half, Muhlenberg scored five straight goals to take a 14-3 lead before Gangemi broke the string with her fourth of the game at the 39-minute mark.
LISA SMICKLO (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) had 12 saves for Montclair State, which was outshot in the game, 30-11. Diana Bleakley had five saves for the Mules.
