Women's Lacrosse Routs Wilkes

Dallas, PA (03/24/03) - Senior attack JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) and juniors CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) and LISA D'ARIES (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) combined for 11 goals and seven assists as Montclair State routed Wilkes University, 16-6 in NCAA Women's Lacrosse action on Monday evening.

The game was played at College of Misericordia after the field at Wilkes University was deemed unplayable.

Gangemi scored five goals and had two assists, while Homiek recorded three goals and four assists. D'Aries had three goals and an assist for the Red Hawks (3-2).

Homiek scored the first goal as Montclair State jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 22 minutes of the contest. Gangemi then scored two straight as MSU built a 3-0 lead at the 6:50 mark of the game. Goals by KRISTEN GISONDI (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township), D'Aries and JESS HANN (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills) extended the lead to 6-0. Gangemi scored off an assist from Homiek and ANGELA GIAMPINO (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored un assisted to stake the Red Hawks to the 8-0 advantage.

Wilkes rallied to cut the lead to 8-3 later in the half as they scored three times in a span of 34 seconds. Melissa Quinn got the first goal unassisted. Kyla Campbell followed with an unassisted goal to make it 8-2 and Alicia Conner got the third off an assist from Kathryn Currier.

Homiek would give Montclair State an 11-3 lead early in the second half with an unassisted goal. But Wilkes answered right back when Maria Currier netted an unassisted tally to make it 11-4. MSU then scored the next five goals to all but put the game away.

LISA SMICKLO (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) had 10 saves for Montclair State, which outshot Wilkes in the game, 31-17.
