JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored eight goals and junior
CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) added four and four assists as Montclair State scored the final 10 goals in a 17-5 victory over Centenary College in Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Conference action at Sprague Field on Tuesday evening.
ERIN BALINT (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) added three goals for Montclair State (6-5, 2-1 KLC), which moved above the .500 mark for the first time since March 17th.
Nikola Henner (Cobham, England/Amer. Comm.) and Vasanti Dhorajia (Closter, NJ/NV-Demarest) each had two goals for Centenary (0-3, 0-1 KLC).
Montclair State led 7-4 at halftime, however Henner's second goal of the contest at the 35:39 mark pulled the Cyclones within two. The Red Hawks responded scoring three times in the next five minutes to restore the lead to five. Gangemi scored at 36:34 and Balint tallied the first of her three scores just over a minute later. Homiek then notched her second goal of the game with 16:08 left to make the score 10-5.
Gangemi and Homiek, who rank ninth and fifth in Division III in scoring, respectively, combined on a goal at the 49:21 mark and Ballint added two straight in a span of 1:30 to extend the lead to 13-5. Gangemi and Homiek had two goals apiece in the last 10 minutes for the final margin. Gangemi, who scored the 200th goal of her career in the first half, has 65 goals in 11 games this season, while Homiek has 55 assists and 78 points - three shy of her own MSU single-season record set in 2002.
LISA SMICKLO (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) made 10 saves in goal for Montclair State before departing with 8:52 remaining. Classmate Danielle Picinich (Montville, NJ/Montville) made two saves in relief. Tina Pagano (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) had 13 saves for the Cyclones, who were outshot in the contest, 24-16.
The Red Hawks return to action on Thursday, April 17th as they travel to Adelphi University. Montclair State lost 17-8 to the Panthers at home last season. Two years ago, MSU won at Adelphi, 13-7 behind five goals from
KRISTEN MISKEY. Gangemi had three goals in that game while Homiek added two and two assists.
