Women's Lacrosse Topped by Division II Adelphi

Garden City, NY (04/17/03) - Junior Leigh Fennessey tallied a career-best eight points with six goals and two assists as Adelphi University, ranked No. 8 in Division II topped Montclair State, 22-1 at Stiles Field on Thursday afternoon. The Panthers improve to 7-1 on the year with their fourth straight win while the Red Hawks fall back to the .500 mark at 6-6.

Eight different players scored for Adelphi with sophomore Katherine Hock and freshman Liz Patano each collecting four goals. Junior Karen Sulinski dished out a career-high five assists along with one goal.

Adelphi dominted throughout, with Fennessey scoring her first goal just 41 seconds into the contest. Junior Jennifer Garone knocked in two of her three goals in the first half as the Pantherts surged to a 15-0 lead at intermission.

Freshman Dawn Anselmin notched the second of two goals 3:07 into the second on an assist by Fennessey for a 17-0 lead. MSU's JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) prevented the shutout when shed scored the Red Hawks' lone goal 7:13 into the second half. Freshman Maray Cannata capped a 5-0 Panther run with an unassisted goal at 4:09 for the win.

The Panther offense dominated the field, outshooting the Red Hawks, 38-3. Sophomore Josephine Coiro had two savs. LISA SMICKLO (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) had nine for MSU. KELLY GRADY (Howell, NJ/Howell) caused six turnovers whil freshman BECKY DAUNORAS (Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) had four caused turnovers.

The Red Hawks return to action on Wednesday, April 23rd as they host the Ducks of Stevens Tech in their final Knickerbocker Conference game. MSU is currently 2-1 in the newly-formed KLC. Last year, MSU lost at Stevens, 13-12, in the season-finale.
