Women's Lacrosse Routs FDU-Florham

Upper Montclair, NJ (04/28/03) - Senior JODI GANGEMI (Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) scored three goals and was one of four Montclair State players to notch a hat trick as the Red Hawks routed Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham, 20-5, in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Monday afternoon.

Junior CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) added two goals and six assists as she reset her own single-season school record for points. JESS HANN (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills), ERIN BALINT (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and KRISTEN GISONDI (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor) each had three goals as Montclair also snapped a two-game losing streak in moving back to the .500 mark at 7-7.

Abby Hildrebrand (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and Erin Hansen (Lacey Township, NJ/Lacey) each had two goals for the Devils (1-13), who have lost three straight.

The Red Hawks scored the first seven goals of the game as Balint scored a pair around a goal by Gangemi for a 3-0 lead 5:55 into the contest. Gisondi scored her first with 22:29 to play in the half and Homiek scored twice for a 6-0 MSU advantage with 15:42 left. BRIDGET FITZSIMMONS (Timonium, MD/Dulaney) capped the spurt with a goal at the 14:18 mark of the period. Hansen finally snapped the run with a goal off a free position shot at the 15:01 mark as FDU-Florham trailed 7- at halftime.

In the second half, Gisondi scored two goals seven minutes in and Hann added two more as Montclair State extended the lead to 14-2 with 17:08 to play in the game.

Jenn Kessler (Lebanon, NJ/New Fairfield (CT)) made 14 saves for the Devils while LISA SMICKLO (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) made three before departing at halftime. Danielle Picinich (Montville, NJ/Montville) had two saves in her one half of work.

Homiek surpassed her own single-season mark of 81 points set last year. The junior, who is currently third in Division III in scoring, now has 89 points. ANGELA GIAMPINO (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson), JoAnn Bracco (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), Smicklo and LISA LUENGO (Lakewood, NJ/St. Rose).

Montclair State outshot FDU-Florham 46-11, including 24-5 in the first half.

The Red Hawks will return to action on Wednesday, April 30th as they travel to Purchase, NY to take on Manhattanville in the semifinals of the inaugural Knickerbocker Women's Lacrosse Tournament. MSU lost to the Valiants, 18-11 at Sprague Field on April 9th.
