Scranton, PA (09/13/03) -- The Montclair State volleyball team closed out its appearance at the 2003 Scranton Invitational with a pair of losses. The Red Hawks (2-10) fell to Muihlenberg in four games before losing to City College of New York by the same 3-1 score.
In the loss to Muhlenberg, junior
BROOKSHIELD LAURENT (East Orange, NJ/Marylawn) led the way with 11 kills and five total blocks while freshman
ASIA LIVINGSTON (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County Tech) and senior
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, NJ/Barringer) had 10 kills apiece. Sophomore
KELLY MCGUIRE (Upper Saddle River, NJ/No. Highlands) had nine service aces in the match as MSU lost the first two games, 30-28 and 30-26 before taking the third, 30-26. Muhlenberg won the fourth and final game, 30-21.
Alvarado had 12 kills to lead Montclair in its match with CCNY. Junior
JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/McNair) posted 19 assists and five digs while McGuire had three kills, two service aces and a team-high 10 digs. Laurent had six kills and Livingston five as MSU lost the first game 30-23 before evening the match with 30-25 win in the second game. CCNY took the final two games - 30-21 and 30-13.
The Red Hawks return home on September 16th for their second NJAC contest of the season against New Jersey City University at 7:00 pm.
