Upper Montclair, NJ (09/16/03) -- The Montclair State University volleyball team recorded its first sweep of the 2003 season tonight, defeating New Jersey City University, three games to none, at MSU's Panzer Gymnasium.
The Red Hawks won by scores of 30-25, 30-19 and 30-20 in posting their second victory in their last five matches overall, and their first victory of the campaign at home. Montclair is now 3-10 overall and 1-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while NJCU fell to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in the league. Montclair won, 3-2, at New Jersey City last fall after dropping a 3-1 decision to the visiting Gothic Knights in the 2001 season finale.

TIFFANY ACIZ (Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus) led the Red Hawks this evening with 15 kills in three games, and also registered a team-high 11 digs. Junior setter
JENNIFER OLAN (Jersey City, NJ/McNair) paced Montclair with 30 assists and three service aces, and also added six digs, while senior hitter
CARMEN ALVARADO (Newark, NJ/Barringer) contributed 12 kills and three assists.
MSU visits William Paterson University on Thursday night in Wayne, looking to avenge a 3-1 loss to the Pioneers at Panzer Gymnasium last September. The Red Hawks will not play at home again until Tuesday, Oct. 7, when they host Ramapo College.
