SEAN HORAN (Tinton Falls, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) and
RYAN MORGAN (Princeton, NJ/Princeton) each scored a goal as Montclair State, ranked 21st in Division III, blanked previously unbeaten McDaniel College, 2-0, in the Ramada Inn Cup at MSU's Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Hawks (3-0) broke on top in the game in the 15th minute as Horan notched his second goal of the season. Taking the ball from the right side, Horan fired a ground shot past Green Terror goalkeeper Andrew Wu (Westminster, MD/Westminster) inside the lower right post.
Morgan extended the lead to 2-0 early in the second half as he notched his fourth goal in three games. Morgan corralled a loose ball on the right side of the net at the three-yard line and flicked a shot that trickled past Wu to the middle of the net.
The rest was left up to the Montclair State defense, which allowed just six shots the entire match. MSU goalkeeper
DAVID AVILES (Dover, NJ/Dover) made two saves a he notched his first shutout of the season. Wu made three stops for McDaniel.
The Red Hawks return to action in the Ramada Inn Cup on Sunday as they host Roger Williams at Sprague Field at 1:00 pm. Roger Williams defeated William Paterson, 1-0 in OT on Saturday. McDaniel will be at William Paterson with that match beginning at 2:00 pm.
