DUQUAN EVERETT (Orange, NJ/Orange) pumped in a season-best 31 points and added nine rebounds as Montclair State posted its fourth straight victory with a 97-87 victory over UMass-Dartmouth on Wednesday evening.
KEITH DUNCAN (Rahway, NJ/East Side (Newark)) added 18 points and six rebounds as the Red Hawks (7-2) put five players in double figures in posting a season-high for points. Last season, MSU defeated the Corsairs, 88-78 in overtime at Panzer Gymnasium.
Matt McAuliffe scored 15 points for UMass-Dartmouth (6-4), which had a two-game winning streak snapped.
Everett, who scored 29 points against Centenary on Monday evening, connected on 14-of-20 attempts from the field. The junior is averaging 26.3 points and 9.5 rebounds in his last four games. Everett was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Grand Canyon Trips Sports Classic on December 31.
MSU led 47-35 at the half and connected on 23-of-37 from the free-throw line compated to just 10-of-12 for the Corsairs. Montclair State shot 51 percent (16-of-31) in the second half and 47.9 for the game (35-of-73).
Sophomore guard
PIERRE MITCHELL (Newark, NJ/East Side) had 13 points and five rebounds and five assists, while forward
GIAN PAUL GONZALEZ (North Haledon, NJ/Manchester Regional) added 12 and five boards.
LAMONT NEWELL (Lodi, NJ/Dwight Murrow) rounded out the Red Hawk player in double figures with 10 points.
The Red Hawks continue their long road trip away from Panzer Gymnasium on Friday, January 9 as they travel to York, PA for the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament. Montclair will take on Buffalo State in the opening round on January 9. It will be the second meeting between the two schools as MSU scored a 74-55 in the championship game of the MSU Tip-Off Tournament on November 22.
