Women's Soccer Moves Onto NJAC Semifinal With 3-1 Win

Montclair, NJ (10/30/04) - Junior forward JESS AMENDOLA scored two goals to lead third-seeded Montclair State University to a 3-1 victory over sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden today in the first round of the 2004 New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament at MSU Soccer Park.

The host Red Hawks improve to 10-7-1 overall with their fifth straight win, while the visiting Scarlet Raptors fall to 12-6-2 on the year. MSU also won at Camden, 7-1, exactly a week ago on Oct. 23.

Amendola scored just 13 seconds into the game, off a set-up by LIZ D'ALTO and Kaylan Van Brookhoven, and then added her second goal of the game and ninth of the season at 33:51 following a corner kick. D'Alto then set up freshman MAUREEN SHOCKLEY for her first career collegiate goal at 44:18 to put MSU up, 3-0, at halftime.

Rutgers-Camden senior midfielder Rachel Greenwald (West Deptford, NJ) spoiled MSU's shutout bid with eight seconds remaining in regulation with her 17th goal of the campaign, assisted by Heather Greenwald.

Sophomore goalkeeper Tracy Stonaker finished with 13 saves for the Scarlet Raptors, while KRISTIN KUHMANN came up with four saves for the Red Hawks, who outshot Rutgers-Camden, 30-8, and also took 11 of the game's 12 corner kicks.

MSU now travels to face second-seeded Richard Stockton College in an NJAC semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 3, in Pomona, NJ, while fourth-seeded Rowan University visits top seed The College of New Jersey that night in the other semifinal in Ewing, NJ.
