Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Amendola Scores Twice to Push Women's Soccer Past Centenary 6-1

Montclair, NJ (10/05/04) - Junior midfielder JESS AMENDOLA scored two goals, and senior forward STEPHANIE SABALIAUSKAS tallied a goal and two assists as the Montclair State University women's soccer team won its fifth straight game, defeating Centenary College, 6-1, today at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field.

MSU senior defender SHIRAH ODEH opened the scoring at 21:56, as her corner kick deflected off a Centenary player and into the Cyclone net for the only goal of the first half. Centenary would get the goal back as freshman midfielder Tanya DiDonna sent classmate Claire Johnson in for the tying score at 54:38, but junior midfielder LAUREN KOWALSKI then put the Red Hawks ahead for good at 62:29, picking off a clearing attempt on the right side before firing home her first career goal.

Kowalski's goal ignited a five-goal MSU scoring spree over a span of 26:15, as Amendola scored at 71:16 off an assist from sophomore defender SERENA FUMOSA to make it 3-1. Sabaliauskas then scored at 73:21 to make it 4-1 before setting up Montclair's final two tallies, by Amendola at 79:22 and by senior forward LIZ D'ALTO at 88:44. D'Alto currently leads Montclair State with five goals this fall.

Sophomore goalkeeper KRISTIN KUHMANN finished with three saves for Montclair, while junior netminder Krystal McCullen four shots for Centenary before giving way to freshman Coree Reuter for the final 16:40.

The Red Hawks, who outshot Centenary, 20-10, will return to action at Southwestern (TX) to begin a two-game Texas swing.
