Women's Soccer Draws With Southwestern (TX)

Georgetown, TX (10/08/04) - Junior midfielder JESS AMENDOLA scored in the first half for a 1-0 lead; however, host Southwestern was able to tie the game in the second as the teams battled to a 1-1 draw on Friday afternoon.

Amendola gave the Red Hawks (5-4-1) a 1-0 lead four minutes before the half, beating Southwestern goalkeeper Ashley TallentIt was the second consecutive game in which Amendola has registered a goal.

The Pirates turned up the intensity in the second half and got on the scoreboard with a goal from Lindsey Abel in the 74th minute off a feed from junior Robin Thompson. The momentum continued for Southwestern he rest of regulation and continued into overtime, as they had several scoring opportunities, but were unable to put one in the net.

The Pirate defense played a crucial role in keeping the ball out of the net in overtime, shutting down MSU's attack by only allowing a single shot in twenty minutes of overtime action.

Kristen Kuhmann stopped seven of the eight Southwestern shots on goal. Talent had two saves for the Pirates.

Montclair State continues action on its Texas swing on Sunday, October 10, as they face third-ranked Trinity (TX).
