Allentown, PA (11/19/04) - Sophomore forward
STEPHANIE MACHIN (right) posted a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds as the Montclair State women's basketball team opened their 2004-05 season with a 64-46 victory over Lebanon Valley in the first round of the Scotty Wood Tournament held at Muhlenberg College.
Montclair State will face Muhlenberg in the championship game on Saturday, November 20 at 6:00 pm.
The victory also was the first for new head coach Beth O'Boyle, who took over in June of this year. O'Boyle had spent the last four seasons at the University of Rochester where she helped the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back NCAA Division III Final Four appearances.
Machin, the 2004 NJAC Rookie of the Year picked up where she left off last season as she posted her ninth career double-double. Junior
AMANDA MULLANEY added 13 points and five rebounds while freshman
JESSICA GARRABRANT and
JENNIFER RUSSELL each chipped in with six points.
Montclair used a sharp shooting touch in the first half to build a 31-19 lead at intermission. The Red Hawks shot 46 percent (14-of-30) from the field while holding Lebanon Valley to just 6-of-24 shooting.
Russell and
AMY SNYDER each added six rebounds with Garrabrant and
SHIKEENA LYNARD each grabbing five. Montclair outrebounded Lebanon Valley, 45-42 and forced LVC into 23 turnovers in the contest.
