Salisbury, MD - Senior Sean Murphy led the Rochester Institute of Technology in scoring with 17 points and went 6-of-12 from the field as the Tigers defeated Montclair State, 70-56, in the first round of the Salisbury Optimist Classic on Friday afternoon. Rochester advances to 1-1 while Montclair falls to 2-3 on the season.

Senior Kyle Goff added 16 points for RIT while junior Fran Snyder posted 11 points. Snyder went 3-for-5 in three-point shooting and also added five rebounds, five assists and a steal. The Red Hawks were led in scoring by junior GIAN PAUL GONZALEZ , who recorded 17 points and was 5-of-8 from the field and 7-for-7 in free throws. Freshman guard ANTHONY LARKIN posted 10 points and was 2-for-3 in three-point shooting as MSU suffered its third straight setback.

Rochester faces the winner of the Salisbury vs. Alvernia game in the men's Optimist Classic Championship on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. The Red Hawks will play in the third- place game at 3:00 p.m. vs. the Salisbury/Alvernia loser.
