Ramapo Hands MSU Fifth Straight Loss

Mahwah, NJ - Antoine Pryor scored 21 points and Todd Lowber added 20 and eight rebounds as Ramapo College used a strong second-half shooting effort in a 97-86 victory over Montclair State in NJAC action on Wednesday evening.

Amin Wright had 16 points for the Roadrunners (4-1, 3-1 NJAC), which had five players reach double figures. Ramapo trailed 45-39 at half, but scored 58 points over the final 20 minutes.

GIAN PAUL GONZALEZ had 27 points for Montclair State, which suffered its fifth straight loss and fell to 2-5 overall this season, 0-2 in the NJAC.

Gonzalez and AL HAWKINS each had 11 points in the opening period as MSU took advantage of cold Ramapo shooting to build its six-point lead. The Roadrunners shot just 12-of-36 from the field compared to Montclair's 17-of-34 (50 percent).

But in the second half, Ramapo found its touch hitting on 57 percent of its attempts (21-of-37). Pryor had 18 points in the half.

Trailing 50-49 with 17:13 left, Ramapo went on a 16-4 run over the next six minutes to pull away. Lowber had 10 of the points, including six straight as the Roadrunners went from down a point to up 11, 65-54 with 11:49 to go.

MICHAEL GLUCK had 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for MSU, which also got 17 points and nine rebounds from Hawkins. RASHAD BUTLER added 10 points and seven rebounds.

While Ramapo got hot from the floor, the Red Hawks struggled connecting on only 36 percent (10-of-28) in the second half. Montclair also committed 32 turnovers which Ramapo converted into 33 points.

Montclair State will look to break its losing streak on Saturday, December 11 as the Red Hawks compete in the NJAC/CUNYAC Challenge. MSU will play the final of four games at City College of New York (CCNY) on Saturday and take on the host Beavers at 7:00 pm.
