Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Dominates Western Connecticut

Montclair, NJ (03/10/04) - Freshmen attackers BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) each scored four goals and CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) had six assists as Montclair State dominated its second straight game and defeated Western Connecticut State, 14-1, in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Thursday afternoon.

The game was rescheduled from Wednesday and the venue changed after unforeseen problems developed as WCSU's home field in Danbury.

Jillian Brown (Northport, NY/King's Park) scored the lone goal while Melissa Perry (Danbuy, CT/Danbury) made 14 saves for the Colonials (0-1), who were playing in their season opener. Montclair State (2-0) has outscored its opponents, 34-1, in its two games this season.

The first 10 minutes of the game went scoreless before Brocklebank snapped the 0-0 tie with a goal off an assist from Homiek with 19:24 left. Gillin notched her first of the game as she extended the lead to 2-0 with just under 14 minutes remaining and ANN DAILY (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown), who had two goals on the day, made it 3-0 with 11:28 to go in the opening half. ABBEY MORGAN (Willingboro, NJ/Moorestown Friend) notched her first goal of the season with 8:25 left for a 4-0 MSU advantage and Gillin netted her second of the contest with 4:39 to play. Homiek tallied a goal with 1:27 to play as the Red Hawks took a 6-0 halftime lead.

Freshman goalkeeper KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) kept the Colonials off the board as she made nine saves - four in the first half and five more in the second before Brown finally broke through with 1:28 left in the game. It was the first goal allowed by Kuhmann in 120 minutes of action in the young 2004 season.

Homiek's six assists gave her 16 this season and 175 in her career, just eight shy of the NCAA All-Division record of 183 set by Maggie Murphy of Frostburg State (MD) from 1989-92.
