Women's Lacrosse Doubles Up Muhlenberg, 12-6

Montclair, NJ (03/20/04) - Freshman midfielder NICOLE LAROCCA (Shamong, NJ/Shawnee) scored all four of her goals during an 11-minute span in the second half as Montclair State broke open a close game en route to a 12-6 victory over Muhlenberg College in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) had four goals and CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) inched closer to the NCAA All-Divisions record for assists with four in the game as the Red Hawks are off to the best start in their history at 3-0. Christa Carlstrand (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills West) and Courtney Tapkas (Long Vally, NJ/West Morris Central) each had two goals for the Mules (2-2).

Montclair State led 4-3 at the half, but scored the first four goals of the second period. Brocklebank began the run at the 1:29 mark and LaRocca netted her first at 2:40 to give MSU a 6-3 lead. LaRocca tallied her second at 4:34 to push the lead to three and her third tally from the free position extended Montclair's lead to 8-3. Tapkas stopped the run with a goal at the 7:13 mark of the half, but LaRocca answered with her fourth to restore the lead to 9-4.

Brocklebank's second goal extended the Red Hawks' lead to six and she answered a Muhlenberg goal with two more tallies as Montclair State led 12-5 with 12:09 to go.

KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South), who leads Division III in goals against average, made 12 saves for MSU, which outshot the Mules 25-18. Diana Bleakley (Havertown, PA/Friends' Central) made seven saves for Muhlenberg.

Homiek's four assists gives her 179 for her career, four shy of the record set by Maggie Murrphy of Frostburg State, who accumulated 183 from 1989-92. Homiek, MSU's all-time leader in assists and points, will attempt to break the mark when the Red Hawks host Wilkes University at Sprague Field on Monday, March 22 at 4:00 pm
