Montclair, NJ (03/04/04) - Freshman attackers
BRIANNA GILLIN (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and
SHAUNA BROCKLEBANK (Long Branch, NJ/Long Branch) each scored six goals in their collegiate debut as Montclair State routed Alvernia College, 20-0, in NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.
Senior attacker
CATHY HOMIEK (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) finished with a career-high 12 points, including a single-game school record 10 assists as the Red Hawks posted their first-ever shutout in the 14-year history of the program.
Montclair State failed on their first five shots, but finally broke through with 24:49 left in the opening period as
KRISTEN GISONDI (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) scored off an assist from Homiek. Gillin notched her first career goal just under three minutes later and Brocklebank got hers with 19:18 left as the Red Hawks took a 3-0 lead. Brocklebank scored her second 52 seconds later and Gisondi tallied her second with 11:35 left before Gillin scored consecutive goals as the Red Hawks led 12-0 at the half.
Homiek broke her own single-game record for assists of nine set against Gwynedd-Mercy last April 5 the same game in which she registered 10 points. The senior led Division III in assists in 2003 with 70 and now has 169 in her three-plus seasons with MSU. Homiek also added two goals as did Gisondi,

KRISTEN KUHMANN (Beachwood, NJ/Toms River South) stopped two of Alvernia's three shots in the game as she posted a shutout in her collegiate debut. Montclair State outshot the Crusaders (37-3).
Becky Peal (Bricktown, NJ/Brick Twp.) had three saves and Dana Ponczek (Fairless Hills, PA/Harry S. Truman) two for Alvernia, which suffered its first loss of the season after two wins.
