Red Hawks Down Wesley Behind Della Pesca's Seven Goals, 12-6

Montclair, NJ - Sophomore attacker JOHN DELLA PESCA (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored seven goals as the Montclair State men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 12-6 win over Wesley College (DE) in NCAA Division III action at Sprague Field on Saturday afternoon.

Junior attacker KEVIN GONDRES (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) added three goals and two assists for the Red Hawks, who are now 4-0 on the year.

Peter Moran (Lindenhurst, NY/Kellenberg Memorial) and Mike Dietrich (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) each had two goals for the Wolverines (0-2).

MSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Gondres scored on the man-advantage off an assist from CHRIS MEIXNER (Hamburg, NJ/Vernon) to put the Red Hawks in front, 1-0. Della Pesca then scored two consecutive goals 1:23 apart to extend the lead to 3-0 before Meixner capped off the run with another MSU goal on the man-advantage. Della Pesca would get the hat trick with 1:35 left as MSU led 5-1 at the end of the first period.

Wesley would get within 6-3 as Adam Starrett (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) scored with a man up, but MSU scored the next five goals bridging the second and third quarters to put the game away. Gondres and Della Pesca scored on power-plays midway through the second as Montclair led 8-3 at halftime. Della Pesca got his sixth and seven tallies early in the third period before Gondres capped the run with his second to give the Red Hawks an 11-3 advantage at the 7:38 mark of the third.

ALAN ANNAZONE (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) made 12 saves for Montclair State, which outshot Wesley, 26-20. Bill Brennan (Lewes, DE/Cape Henlopen) had nine for the Wolverines, which got two assists from Sam Glover (Sheffield, England/Tapton).

RICH DOYEN (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) had three assists for MSU, which also got two assists from BRIAN FISCHER (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) and Meixner. The Red Hawks were 5-of-9 in their man-advantage opportunities.
